University of Bristol academics and support staff were honoured at the inaugural Bristol Teaching Awards ceremony held at the Mansion House, Bristol on 17 June 2013. One of six Students' Awards for Teaching went to Dr Mark Dennis of the School of Physics - while Student Administrator Robert Duerr received a Commendation from the Dean of Science.

A joint venture between the Students’ Union and the University, the Bristol Teaching Awards is a new scheme to recognise and reward those who have made an outstanding contribution to teaching and the provision of support for students.

All taught students and staff were invited to nominate a lecturer, member of support or technical staff or colleague during April and May 2013. Nominations were considered by a panel whose membership was constituted in relation to the category of award being made; the panel members were very impressed with the number and quality of the nominations from across faculties.

Dr Dennis said "I am extremely pleased, and grateful for the support of the students over the year".
