A team of baking enthusiasts from the Micro- and Nanostructural Materials group raised a total of £172.50 for the charity Sparks on Wednesday 15th May and brought together many in the School of Physics for a morning coffee break at the same time.

The cake sale was part of the charity’s “Bake for Bumps” campaign to raise funds for medical research projects including one at Bristol’s St Michael’s Hospital, looking into conditions affecting babies, children and mothers-to-be. More information on these projects can be found at http://www.sparks.org.uk/research/projects/.

Several delicious home baked cakes and biscuits were on offer in the staff common room, from classics such as carrot cake and banana cake to new ideas like cake pops and international delights such as Hungarian-French Gerbeaud and the famous Sachertorte.
