Quantum Matter Seminar 15th February: "Transient superconductivity from driving electronic band transitions"

14 February 2023

This seminar is on effective attraction between electrons. It will be presented by Christian Eckhardt (Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter).

Join the Quantum Matter group in a seminar titled "Transient superconductivity from driving electronic band transitions" with Christian Eckhardt (Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter).

Date: 15 February 2023, 2:00PM - 3:00PM

Location: Room 3.27

Abstract:

In this talk I will present a simple mechanism explaining how a boson coupled locally to an electronic level transition can lead to an effective attraction between electrons. Interestingly, exact diagonalization calculations indicate that this attraction may be resonantly enhanced out of equilibrium. Using the BCS formalism, I will discuss how this mechanism may give rise to light-induced transient superconductivity and provide a concrete and experimentally accessible example where this could be tested.

Future Seminars:

Thursday 16th Feb, 4pm – Dr. Clifford Hicks (University of Birmingham)

Friday 24th Feb, 2pm – Dr. Toni Helm (HLD-EMFL and Helmholtz Zentrum, Dresden)

Thursday 2nd March, 5pm – Prof. Chandra Varma (University of California)

Friday 17th March, 2pm – Dr. Niladri Banerjee (Loughborough University)
