Venue: Mott Lecture Theatre, HH Wills Physics Labs Building, Tyndall Ave, 4pm
We would like to invite you to attend the Physics Colloquium, which will be held on Monday from 3:00PM - 4:00PM in the Mott Lecture Theatre. The colloquia will be followed by tea and coffee in the staff coffee room. We hope to see you there!
The most imminent event in the series, on the 30th October, will be hosted by Julia Slingo FRS (Former Met Office Chief Scientist). Click here for a PDF of the abstract: Colloquium 30th October (PDF, 485kB)
Abstract:
Rapid human emissions of greenhouse gases are changing Earth's climate beyond anything observed for millions of years. In this talk I will explain the basics of climate modelling and show how models have been used as, first, a computational laboratory to explore how the climate system works and explain why our climate is changing, and, second, how models are used to look into future and help us decide how best to mitigate and adapt to climate change. At the end I will outline the scientific and technical frontiers in advancing climate modelling and delivering climate information for all.
