Title: Introduction to Medical Physics and the Scientist Training Programme (STP)
Lecturers: Alice Carlin and William Vandenberg (Barts NHS Trust) Talk
Abstract:
We will cover an introduction to medical physics and potential career options with a particular focus on the Scientist Training Programme (STP) and medical physics specialisms within the STP. The STP is a paid training scheme which enables trainees to become registered Clinical Scientists within the NHS. The training takes places over three years and involves work-based placements alongside a fully-funded, part-time MSc. Clinical Scientists play an important role in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of medical conditions. Their work also includes opportunities for research into cutting-edge techniques that ensure the highest quality of patient care. This talk will include a general overview of the scheme and some handy tips on how best to prepare for the application process. If you’re interested in the practical application of physics in medicine then the STP could be an excellent learning opportunity.
