We congratulate Jake Ayres, who was awarded the prize for their thesis, 'Correlated Electron Systems Under Extreme Conditions'.

Congratulations to Jake Ayres who has won the 2022 Institute of Physics, Superconductivity Group Thesis Prize. This prize is awarded for the best thesis in the field of superconductivity in a given year.

Jake’s Thesis, ‘Correlated Electron Systems Under Extreme Conditions’ was an experimental study of the magneto-transport of high temperature superconductors (iron based and cuprate) at very high magnetic fields and also hydrostatic pressure. These very challenging experiments contributed to 4 publications (2 in Nature, 1 Nature Physics, 1 Phys. Rev. Lett).

The Thesis was supervised by Tony Carrington, Sven Friedemann and Nigel Hussey. Jake is currently an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellow working in the Quantum Matter group in Bristol.
