Dr Thomas Purves wins doctoral prize for thesis

25 October 2022

Each faculty is allocated an award, with Purves as the prize winner for the Faculty of Science.

Each year, the University’s Research Degrees Examination Board presents a prize for a doctoral candidate in each Faculty. Examiners recommend suitable candidates as part of the examination process and each Faculty selects one candidate for the prize based on those recommendations. The Research Degrees Examination Board then confirms these selections at its first meeting of the subsequent year.

As a result of this process, Dr Thomas Purves was awarded the prize for outstanding excellence in a doctoral dissertation for the Faculty of Science in 2021/22. We would like to wish them a big congratulations!

Professor Robert Bickers, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (PGR), said the nomination that was received 'attests to the very high standard' of Purves' work and clearly demonstrated the 'effort and commitment' brought to the research. Well done, once again, to Dr Purves and also their supervisors Dr Anthony Short and Dr Paul Skrzypczyk!

As well as a Certificate of Commendation, Purves will be the recipient of a £500 cash reward.
