Our research is organised into 2 major themes reflecting our strengths and interests: cardiovascular and cell signalling, and neuroscience. Within these themes we aim to address grand challenges in medical research by understanding mechanisms of disease to develop novel therapies enabling healing and regeneration. 

We foster an inter-disciplinary research culture, involving national and international collaboration with colleagues in other schools, universities, industry and healthcare. This collaborative approach promotes an inclusive and dynamic environment that is well supported with funding from many sources, particularly from the MRC, BBSRC, Wellcome Trust and British Heart Foundation. Our open research culture supports Early Career Researchers, instigates teaching innovation and engagement with the public and patient groups.
