Ada Lovelace Day Public talk 'Data Science: Drinking from the Firehose'

11 October 2016, 6.00 PM - 11 October 2016, 7.00 PM

Miranda Mowbray, Hewlett Packard Labs

Chemistry, LT2

The data scientists who find useful patterns in large data sets have been described as the new rock stars of the technology world.  One application area for data science is computer network security. I will talk about some general issues with analysing big data to discover security problems in large computer networks, and some techniques that have been successful. My talk will also include an excuse to eat more chocolate.

Miranda Mowbray works at Hewlett Packard Labs, where her research interests currently include machine learning applied to computer network security, and ethics for Big Data analysis. She is a Fellow of the British Computer Society. Her PhD is in Algebra, from London University.

This event is open to all and free to attend, but please register for a free place. This can be done in just a few clicks.
