Decolonising research: what is it and how can I do it?

13 April 2023, 11.00 AM - 13 April 2023, 12.00 PM

Online

Decolonising higher education has become a major demand over the last few years. But what exactly does it mean? And how does it apply to the research that all of us do as students, undergraduate or postgraduate?

In this online session you'll become familiar with what decolonisation means, with a focus on how it relates to the academic literature you use in your essays. We'll look at how to find literature from non-Western sources, and we'll critically question whether the criteria of academic excellence currently disadvantage non-Western authors.

By the end of the session you should have a clearer understanding of what decolonising higher education entails, and how you can proactively engage in this process.

This session is intended for undergraduate and PGT students from the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Social Sciences and Law.

The workshop will take place on Microsoft Teams. A link to the session will be in your confirmation email.
