Professor Keith Syrett appointed legal expert on the Royal College of Physicians’ Committee on Ethical Issues in Medicine

24 January 2022

The Law School’s Professor of Health Law and Policy, Keith Syrett, has been appointed as legal expert on the Committee on Ethical Issues in Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians.

Professor Syrett will join the RCP’s distinguished Committee as legal expert for a term of four years from January 2022.

The Royal College of Physicans (RCP) is the oldest medical college in England, working to drive improvement in the diagnosis of disease, the care of individual patients and the health of the whole population, both in the UK and across the globe, through lobbying and advising government and policy-makers, undertaking clinical audits and publishing guidelines and standards on clinical practice and patient care.

The Committee on Ethical Issues in Medicine advises the RCP on ethical issues of particular concern to physicians and the public they serve, and responds to requests from individuals and public bodies for guidance on general ethical issues in medicine.

Professor Syrett said: “I am delighted and honoured to be appointed to this important role.

“I am very much looking forward to working with my colleagues on the Committee to provide advice to the College on ethical issues in clinical practice and to help shape its response to policy developments.”
