2018 Law School Year in Review

Press release issued: 28 January 2019

As we race through January 2019, we take a moment to look back at the Law School’s past year, highlighting the changes it brought, achievements from academics and students, and additions to our community and research centres.

2018 was a year of change for the Law School as we celebrated the achievements of Professor Joanne Conaghan, who stepped down as Head of School in July, and welcomed Professor Ken Oliphant as her successor.

Under Professor Conaghan’s leadership the School grew in both size and reputation for its world-leading expertise across the discipline – improving its profile both internally and externally.

Professor Oliphant’s plans to take us into a new era have already seen the introduction of a new research centre, innovative new courses and preparations to make sure our research impact is endorsed in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.

This review showcases this year’s achievements in deepening the student experience, enriching the curriculum and influencing the political and legal landscape. It also provides a flavour of what’s to come.
