Q&A with Nicoletta Bakolas

Press release issued: 17 July 2018

We caught up with recent Law graduate, Nicoletta Bakolas who told us a bit more about how she found her time studying at Bristol for the past three years. Nicoletta received the prize for Best Student in IT Law at this years Graduation party.

What did you find most challenging during your time at the Law School?

The most challenging part of being a student was balancing my time between working on my course and pursuing my other interests, all while adjusting to life in a different country. Being able to study, explore the UK and participate in societies while not falling behind on taught material required effective time management and planning. With a lot of effort - and perhaps some initial errors - my judgment and skills improved. Looking back, I have many good memories within and outside of my course.

What has been your proudest moment since starting your course?

My proudest moment during university was receiving the feedback for my Final Year Research Project. Producing a piece entirely dependent on my own research on a topic of my choice was a challenging yet extremely rewarding experience. Receiving my mark made me realise how much I had developed as a law student since the first year and gave me the confidence to pursue future academic endeavours.

What has inspired you most during your time here?

During my time in Bristol I was inspired by the people I had the pleasure of meeting, both in the university setting and outside of it. I was given the chance to interact with individuals from various backgrounds, with beliefs and viewpoints different from my own. Being part of a multicultural environment enhanced my personal development and academic performance.

How has your experience here helped you prepare for the workplace?

Studying in Bristol gave me the opportunity to enhance my employability skills both through studying for my course and by being a member of the Law Clinic, which provided me with practical legal experience and research skills. Completing the Bristol Plus award was particularly enlightening, as I received advice on submitting application forms, fine-tuning my CV and approaching interviews. Overall, my communication, time management and teamwork skills greatly improved, as did my ability to motivate myself and remain focused during stressful periods.

What are your future aspirations following graduation?

I am still exploring my options on which career path to pursue. I am planning on spending the next year gathering work experience and seeing which sector I gravitate towards. Experiencing work in various fields will be exciting and is something I look forward to!

What advice would you give to students about to start their journey into Law at Bristol?

My advice would be for them to enjoy their university years. It is alright to not have your life precisely mapped out; the important thing is to keep an open mind and take advantage of all opportunities offered to you! University is a great time to explore yourself, your interests and to expand your horizons.
