Professor Sir Malcolm Evans Chairs the 33rd session of the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture in Geneva

This week Professor Sir Malcolm Evans will Chair the 33rd session of the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture, in Geneva.

The UN Subcommittee on the Prevention of Torture conducts visits to detention in countries around the world and works with states to improve protection against ill treatment and improve conditions of detention. The subcommittee has recently undertaken visits in Mongolia, Morocco, Rwanda, Spain. It also oversees the establishment of national mechanisms to prevent torture in all of its states soarties.
 
At its week long meeting in Geneva, starting on 13 November 2017, the subcommittee will be adopting reports on visits, planning future visits, hearing and discussing the work of national mechanisms and considering the implementation of its recommendations with a broad range of States and others.
