Careers: Exploring law and beyond

Press release issued: 7 November 2017

Over the past few months we have put on numerous events to showcase the careers paths open to students within and out of the law – launching our first series of themed weeks and introducing new skills sessions as part of Law Month.

This term, our new themed week series saw a variety of employers and speakers, including those from the Law Commission, Barclays Investment Banking and the Government Legal Service, come into the School to help students explore all the options available with a law degree.

We also hosted a client interviewing simulation workshop with the entrepreneurship department at Browne Jacobson which received excellent feedback from students and gave real-life insights into working in a law firm.

And, during the Law Fair which took place 31 October to 1 November, we provided students with the opportunity to network with almost 80 firms and Chambers.

"We hope to continue to offer interactive and practical sessions in the future and have more lined up before the end of this term from speakers at the Ministry of Defence, an expert talking about key trademark disputes and law focused sessions on becoming a solicitor and barrister,” Rosa Grainger, Student Liaison Officer for the Law School.

Later this month we have our annual two-part employability skills sessions delivered by Herbert Smith Freehills to provide practical insights into producing successful applications and excelling at interviews.
