Press release issued: 27 March 2015

Two of our student law societies won awards last night at the first ever student law society awards event, an initiative of LawCareers.net with sponsorship support from a number of leading law firms and barristers chambers. The University of Bristol Law Club, which was nominated in three categories, scooped the award for Best Social Event, beating off Cambridge University Law Society, Queen Mary Bar Society and The Queen Mary Law Society (joint hosts). The University of Bristol Bar Society triumphed in the Best Society for Aspiring Barristers category, prevailing over the other shortlisted nominees, Queen Mary Bar Society UEA Law Society. The awards were announced and presented in a ceremony at Painters Hall in London on the evening of Thursday 26 March 2015.

Commenting on the success, Head of School, Professor Joanne Conaghan, said, "I am delighted for the students and especially for Miles and Spencer. The work our student societies do is incredibly important to the school and makes a real difference to the student experience. The students put in a lot of hard work to everyone’s greater benefit and it’s really nice to see this being formally recognized and rewarded. "

Miles Pope said, "The UBLC are absolutely delighted to receive this accolade. It really is a testament to the hard work that goes on across the entire law school community. Thanks must be extended to our sponsors, Burges Salmon without whom this event would not have been such a resounding success. Congratulations also to the outgoing Social Secretary, Emily Barrett, who worked tirelessly throughout the year to provide amazing socials for our members. A well deserved award all around!"
