Professor Paula Giliker to give paper at two conferences in April

Press release issued: 1 April 2015

Professor Paula Giliker will be delivering a lecture at the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law on April 15 2015, entitled "A common law of privacy? The challenges of developing a human rights tort". This paper will examine how common law jurisdictions such as England and Wales, Australia, Canada and the United States have responded to claims arising from wrongful invasion of privacy rights and the extent to which the courts in each of these countries have been prepared to develop new forms of tort law to provide a remedy for claimants. The paper builds on research published in Professor Giliker's recent monograph, The Europeanisation of English Tort Law (Hart Publishing, 2014)

Professor Paula Giliker will also be participating in the VII Conference on Legal Studies in Europe and Terminology Workshops at the University of Valencia on 20-23 April 2015. This is an annual event which celebrates the academic study of law across Europe and examines the challenges of studying in common law and civil law jurisdictions. In addition to Professor Giliker, there will be representatives from France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Romania. Professor Giliker will be delivering a workshop on English legal terminology and giving a lecture on "Studying law in the United Kingdom: the Erasmus experience" in addition to participating in a panel discussion. Professor Giliker is the Director of the Law with Study Abroad and Law with Study in Continental Europe programmes at the University of Bristol. Details about this conference can be found on the Valencia University webpage.
