In front of a packed Reception Room and appearing before Lord Toulson, Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, Bristol's Moot Team triumphed in the final of the Law School's Inaugural Intervarsity Mooting Competition.  The Bristol team – comprising Tom Margesson (third year) and Hebe Trotter (second year) – fought their way to the final after dispatching teams from Westminster, Swansea, and Jesus College, Oxford. In a tense final, against stiff opposition from BPP Law School, and forensic questioning by Lord Toulson, the Bristol mooters offered up a polished performance which, in the end, was enough to earn them the victory.  Lord Toulson commended both teams on the quality of their advocacy.

The event had the backing of the student run Bristol Law Club, and was organised by Sarah Edmond, Emma Loizou, and Eloise Pollard (all final year students).  Professor Harry McVea, the Law School’s Mooting Coordinator, said "the students are to be congratulated on organising such an impressive event and arranging for Lord Toulson to judge the final.  It was a resounding success and, with continued sponsorship, we would hope that the competition will become an established fixture in the Law School's mooting calendar."

Fourteen teams from all over the South of England competed in the knock out style competition.  The event was sponsored by leading Bristol Law firm, Bond Dickinson LLP, and the London ‘magic circle’ firm, Slaughter & May.  St John’s Chambers, Bristol, offered mini-pupillages to the winning team.
