The School of Law congratulates Geraldine Hastings, who has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.  Geraldine was supervised by Lois Bibbings (Law) and Dr Richard Huxtable  (Centre for Ethics in Medicine).

Geraldine’s thesis focuses upon the values espoused by paediatric physiotherapists working in the community. Although broadly socio- and medico-legal, it does so by adopting an approach drawn from the relatively new field of empirical ethics. The research first considers what values are meant to be central to paediatric physiotherapists in terms of professional guidance, ethical theory and law and then looks at what paediatric physiotherapist say and think about the values they espouse (this involved conducting a qualitative empirical study). The thesis finally compares the empirical findings with the values expressed through professional guidance, ethical theory and law.

Her examiners were Dr Emma Williamson (SPS, Bristol) and Dr Glenys Williams (Aberystwyth University).
