Academic staff pathways

The academic staff pathways are as follows:

• Pathway One is the pathway for academic staff whose responsibilities encompass both research and teaching.
• Pathway Two is the pathway for academic staff whose main focus is research.
• Pathway Three is the pathway for academic staff whose responsibilities are primarily to cover essential teaching, educational needs and, for more senior grades, pedagogic research.

The clinical career pathways are sub-sets, almost invariably of either Pathways One or Three, and cover all staff whose contractual duties include the undertaking of clinical duties but which otherwise are the same as one of the pathways above. 

Movement between pathways:
There is no right to move between pathways, in any direction, even by way of a ‘sideways movement’ to the same level. However, there may be certain circumstances where movement may be possible, in which case the relevant processes will apply.
