Based on analysis of the Family Resources Survey 1995/96, this research provides an invaluable insight into the ‘unbanked': who and how many they are, their experiences and needs.
The report concludes that there is a clear need for some form of basic banking product for those people who are currently financially excluded. However, it also recognises that there is a group of people who are so marginalised – not just from financial services, but also from jobs, housing, and a whole range of other services – that meeting their needs will require more than access to a current account.
