Dr Kirk Sides Wins Research Fellowship

Dr Sides has been awarded a fellowship for residency in the Humanities Institute at Pennsylvania State University as a Visiting Research Scholar

He will be in residence in August and September while working on his book manuscript, African Anthropocene: The Ecological Imaginary in African Literatures. You can find out more about the fellowships and Dr Sides' award here.

Dr Sides joined the Department of English in 2017 as Lecturer in World Literatures in English. He works principally on African literature and its intersection with ecological questions, especially in relation to the Anthropocene, and has published articles and chapters in the Journal of Postcolonial Literary InquirySafundi: Journal of South African and American StudiesCritical Philosophy of Race and The Postcolonial World (Routledge).

Dr Sides also recently convened a session of the 'Indian Oceanologies' Working Group to focus on 'Indian Ocean Ecologies of Relation'. The session will feature writers, artists and academics speaking about ecological understandings and the environments of the Indian Ocean world.
