The Department welcomes five teaching-focussed lecturers this September.

Dr Steve Bull, Dr Steph Codsi, Dr Emma Crowley, Dr Joan Passey and Dr Matt Prout will all be teaching-focussed lecturers in the English Department during 2021/22.  We are delighted to have such a wealth of talent teaching with us and looking forward to working with them all.

Steve’s research focuses on the faerie creatures and otherworldly landscapes of medieval and early modern Arthurian romance. Steph works on the poetry of William Blake and radical literature of the 1790s. Emma's focus is on world literature, decolonial methodologies and transnational feminisms. Joan Passey works on ecocriticism, nineteenth-century literature, and the Gothic.  Finally, Matt researches the relationship between literature and philosophy in contemporary writing.

They will be teaching on units including Critical Issues (Steve and Emma), Literature 1740-1900 (Steph and Matt), Novel Territories (Steph), Victorian Fiction (Joan), Decolonising Literature and Literary Studies (Emma), American Revolutions (Matt), Literature’s Children (Joan) and The Fairy Tale in English (Steve).
