Dr Leighan Renaud wins teaching award

Dr Leighan Renaud wins one of only six university-wide Inspiring and Innovative Teaching Awards.

The annual awards are organised by the Bristol Institute for Teaching and Learning (BILT), and Dr Renaud's award relates to the second-year undergraduate unit 'Black British Literature'.

Students nominating her for the award praised her 'excellent communication' and ability to establish 'an inclusive environment where everyone feels they can contribute' and is 'comfortable taking risks with [their] ideas'. Dr Renaud is a lecturer and researcher whose primary research interests include contemporary Caribbean fiction, practices of neo-archiving, Caribbean folklore, and contemporary Black women's writing. Her PhD research focused on representations of matrifocality in 21st century Caribbean fiction, and she will be publishing a monograph based on this research with Peter Lang. In addition to her academic work, Leighan is publishing her debut children's book, A Grand Place, with Formy Books in October 2021.
