The School of Education at the University of Bristol hosted a cake sale in support of Macmillan Cancer Support on 1 November 2023.

Table of homemade cakes for the Macmillan cancer support cake saleA panel of School judges, consisting of Professor William Browne (Head of School), Antonia Lythgoe (Associate Professor in Education) , Sarah Cox (School Research Manager), Caroline Falzon (School Education Manager), and Toby Bristow (Deputy School Manager), faced the challenging task of selecting a "Star Baker" from the impressive submissions.

Judge panel during the Macmillan cake sale“A wonderful event bringing School community together for a worthy cause supporting Macmillian” commented Rebecca Rose, School Manager, “A massive thank you to everyone who contributed, the Exec Support Team for organising and facilitating the event, the bakers, the fakers and the judges.  The standard was extremely high as the judges attested (and enjoyed).  We evidently have some talented bakers within the School who would be worthy contestants on the Great British Bake Off!”

Ultimately, Dr Carolina Gordillo Bravo was crowned Star Baker with her exceptional pumpkin pie: “I've never taken part in a bake competition before and I was surprised to win because I thought my gluten-free pumpkin pie did not look as pretty as the other cakes... it's very difficult to get gluten-free pastries right.  I was more interested in cooperate with MacMillan Cancer support and wanted to bake something seasonal as Halloween had just passed. I am glad everybody liked it and I am already thinking about what my next bake will be!”.
