International Women's Day 2021 - School of Education newsletter

8 March 2021

Today (Monday 8 March 2021) is International Women's Day.

International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

Marked annually on March 8th, IWD is one of the most important days of the year to celebrate women's achievements, and to raise awareness about women's equality. The campaign theme for International Women's Day 2021 is '#ChooseToChallenge'. A challenged world is an alert world. And from challenge comes change.

The School of Education would like to take this opportunity to celebrate women, both past and present, who inspire our teaching and work today.

The newsletter covers inspirational women from the School of Eduction including:

  • Professor Helen Wodehouse, the first woman to hold the post of Professor of Education and Head of Department at the University of Bristol
  • Dr Peggy Styles, the 86-year-old made history by becoming the oldest student to graduate from the University of Bristol
  • We asked some of our members of staff about their roles and what #ChooseToChallenge means to them
  • What the University of Bristol are doing to celebrate International Women's Day.
