School of Education colleagues awarded Cabot Institute Innovation Fund 2021

11 October 2021

School of Education academic staff along with colleagues from the School of Biological Sciences and the School of Geographical Sciences, have been awarded the Cabot Institute Innovation Fund for 2021.

School of Education academic staff Nicola Warren-Lee, Paul Howard-Jones, Alf Coles, Kate Hawkey, Celia Tidmarsh and Jon James, along with colleagues from the School of Biological Sciences and the School of Geographical Sciences, have been awarded the Cabot Institute Innovation Fund for 2021. The fund is aimed at supporting bold, ambitious and impactful ideas that transcend disciplinary boundaries.

The Cabot Institute Innovation Fund is an annual open call, with between £25-£30k of funding derived from generous gifts and donations to the Cabot Institute. Projects supported must demonstrate an interdisciplinary approach and reflect Cabot’s research focus on protecting our environment and identifying ways of living better with our changing planet.

The School of Education is delighted to announce that the Climate Science into Classrooms project that the School of Education team are working on has been granted the 2021 award. Their project brings together climate scientists and expert educators to pilot transdisciplinary generation of Climate Change Education (CCE) resources for schools.

They will produce 4 sets of curriculum-aligned, age-appropriate resources, each featuring the work of a UoB climate scientist. The project will maximise and measure effectiveness of materials across school subjects and age groups. Outcomes will be published online alongside instruments for their evaluation, inviting teachers to collaborate in assessing impact on student understanding, attitudes and behaviour.
