Applied Classics
‘Applied Classics’ is a course unique to Bristol University. This unit, taken in your third and final year, allows you to create a unique project that communicates what you love about studying the ancient world.
The Applied Classics unit, taken in your third year, gives you the opportunity to show off your knowledge of the Classics in a creative project that you design and create. The Classical world is in your hands.
In recent years, students have created podcasts about the ancient world in modern media, designed companies that cater for Greek- and Roman-themed dinner parties, and set up a travel agency offering trips to Atlantis! You can find out more of these projects on the Festival of Classics webpage.
With the help and advice of subject specialists and the University’s technical support, you will work with other students to identify, plan, market and execute a project aimed at presenting your ideas about Classics to the wider public. You can flex your creative muscles; work as a team with your friends; and gain experience in project management.
The skills you gain in this unit have been designed with the help of the University’s Careers Service to provide you with core skills that prepare you for the job market, including problem-solving, teamwork and communication, time management.
The Festival of Classics
At the end of the year, we hold the Festival of Classics, to showcase your projects—and thewhole department comes together to celebrate your learning, your achievements, and what you love about your studies.
