Cabot biologist awarded New Phytologist Tansley Medal

Press release issued: 20 December 2021

Dr Tommaso Jucker, a NERC Independent Research Fellow and Lecturer at the University of Bristol’s School of Biological Sciences, has won the 2020 New Phytologist Tansley Medal, an annual award that recognises an outstanding contribution to plant science by an early career researcher.

Dr Jucker’s research focuses on the processes behind the structure and function of the world’s forests, and how these might respond to rapid environmental change.

He said: “Being awarded the New Phytologist Tansley Medal is a huge honour. Looking back at the list of past winners and finalists I see the names of so many of the plant ecologists that have inspired my work and my approach to science.

“I can only hope to play a small role in doing the same for the next generation of plant scientists.”

The judging panel for the 2020 competition was comprised of New Phytologist Editors Amy Austin, Liam Dolan and Elena Kramer.
