Peer to Peer

What is Peer to Peer electricity exchange and trading?

Households own renewable electricity generation sources (like solar panel or wind turbines) which are connected to the grid. Generation owner-households then sell, exchange or gift their excess energy to friends, family or other buyers.  Those without own generation can buy from peers too.

What’s good about Peer-to-Peer electricity trading?

  • You generate your own electricity
  • You get better price by selling to and buying from peers.
  • You reduce own environmental impact as well as decarbonise energy infrastructure
  • You can choose who to buy from and sell to, for example, help your loved ones or those in need.

Can I participate in P2P electricity trading?

This is an entirely new energy service, which is now being trialled in multiple locations.

In the meantime, consider the following:

  • installing a generation and storage sources to get electricity at better price;

  • invest into community energy projects to help with decarbonisation

  • join your local climate action group to learn more and prepare for transition
