Heat pumps: the future of home heating

Heating infrastructure in the UK is at the cusp of a complete overhaul. With 37% of the national greenhouse gas emissions coming from the domestic and industrial heating, and £19.6 billion worth of gas imported in 2021, the UK’s heating system is both unsustainable and overly reliant on international geopolitics.

One of the ways to prepare heating infrastructure for the future is electrification. In particular, the developments in heat pump technology allow the transition from gas to sustainable electricity. Twinned with the efforts to insulate properties and grants to fund installations, heat pumps are set to become a common feature of British homes.

For this image, we worked with Bristol City Council who are now promoting government grants towards installation of this novel technology. Our co-created poster outlines key benefits and directs the reader to further sources of information.
