Professor Gary Foster elected as a member of University Council

Professor Gary Foster has been elected to the University Council, which is the governing body of the University, dealing with policy, finance and senior staff appointments.

Council is the governing body of the University, sets the policy of the University, in consultation with Senate on academic matters, and manages all the University's financial matters. Council nominates the Chancellor, Pro-Chancellors and Treasurer for appointment by Court, and appoints the Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellors after consultation with Senate.

Council enters into contracts on behalf of the University, including contracts of employment. It reviews and promotes the teaching and research of the University and supervises Senate. Council investigates and if appropriate redresses any Grievance brought by officers, staff or students of the University.
