Where can a qualification from the School of Anatomy take me?
Whichever programme you undertake in the School, we aim to equip you with the knowledge and practical skills required for a successful career in this very varied field.
The School has extensive support available for students who are considering their next steps, with a proven track record of thriving graduates in a range of careers.
There are several career pathways available to graduates of anatomy, with further study in a related postgraduate degree being just one of the many possibilities available.
Possible career options include
Accelerated Graduate Entry
Graduates of Applied Anatomy may apply to the Accelerated Graduate Entry level of our globally recognised Veterinary Science degree, meaning you can practise as a Veterinary Surgeon around the world.
Scientist training programme
The NHS offers a highly sought after three year fully funded training programme for science graduates, which consists of a part-time masters alongside work based training in a specialism of your choosing, including histopathology, vascular science and cardiac science.
Research scientist
A qualification in Anatomy means you will be skilled in a wide range of specialisms relating to the mammalian body. Students who undertake our BSc in Applied Anatomy will already have some experience in conducting research, and with further study, generally via a PhD, may find a career as a research scientist of interest.
Allied Health Professional
With a qualification in anatomy, you will be well placed to take an MSc degree in one of the recognized allied health professions, such as a radiographer, physiotherapist, or prosthetist.
Forensic osteology
With further study, you could employ your knowledge of the human skeleton in interpreting bones and thus help in identification for either historical or judicial purposes.
Medical device/technology specialist
Medical device/technology and pharmaceutical companies rely on skilled representatives to demonstrate and sell their products to health professionals. Understanding the function of the body and how certain medicines interact will leave you well placed to explain products to customers.
Medical illustration and writing
From educational materials to drug instructions, contributing to medical magazines and journals to preparing materials for medical conferences, a thorough understanding of anatomy helps medical illustrators and writers to undertake their work accurately. An additional qualification may be required following a BSc in Applied Anatomy. Find out more on the Institute of Medical Illustrators Website.
