Research projects
The group brings together recognised experts in the fields of numerical modelling, applied fluid mechanics, aeroacoustics and aeroelasticity. All academic staff are research active with a track record of securing major funding and working with key industry partners.
- AERIALIST2.4M Euro H2020 research project aiming to contribute to the identification of breakthrough technologies to achieve civil aircraft noise reduction targets.
- ENODISEAn EU-funded project aimed at improving the integration of novel aircraft’s propulsion systems with the airframe.
- INVENTORThe primary goal of INVENTOR is to better understand the physics of noise generated by LGs and HLDs
- JINAOur approach in JINA is to reduce the low-frequency noise amplification by the manipulation of the jet hydrodynamic field via nozzle shape optimization.
- Bio-inspired flightAerodynamic sensing and control aspects of animal flight and how we can use bio-inspiration to improve engineered technologies.
- Effect of Separation and Stall on Aerofoil NoiseIn collaboration with the University of Southampton, Embraer and GE Dowty, this project focuses on the investigation of aerofoil separation and stall noise.
- SilentPropSilentProp will directly contribute to the Clean Sky vision of drastically reducing aircraft induced community noise.
- U-HARWARDThe U-HARWARD project (Ultra High Aspect Ratio Wing Advanced Research and Designs) will use innovative aerodynamic and aeroelastic designs in a multi-fidelity, multi-disciplinary, optimal design approach to facilitate the development of Ultra-High aspect ratio wings for large transport aircraft.
- ARTEMARTEM aims to develop low-noise aircraft concepts through combining innovative noise reduction technologies.
