Updates on equipment hire at Sport, Exercise and Health facilities

The hire of equipment at Sport, Exercise and Health facilities (Indoor Sport Centre, Coombe Dingle Sports Complex and the Swimming Pool) has now resumed, including the use of shared yoga mats during fitness classes.
We are encouraging all visitors to use the cleaning supplies provided on site to wipe down all equipment before and after use, to help keep our community safe.

Updates from Swim School and Tennis

Swim School

It has been decided that while transmission in the wider population remains high there will be no change to how we operate Swim School at this time. We ask that you please continue to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Wear a face covering when inside University buildings.
  • Keep to 2m social distancing when in the Richmond Building.
  • Wait outside of the pool in the designated Swim School waiting area.
  • Only one parent to attend with Swim School participant.
  • Children should arrive "beach ready" for their session (swimwear under clothes to change poolside).

University of Bristol Tennis

Students and staff are strongly encouraged to complete two lateral flow tests each week. Do not come to Coombe Dingle if you are displaying COVID symptoms. 

  • You must book in advance; this applies to casual court hire and coaching / camps.
  • Face coverings are required when moving through the tennis centre.
  • Spectators are permitted on site.
  • Toilets and changing rooms are open and will be cleaned twice a day.

Parents of children booked on to camps in July and August will receive more information about COVID guidelines before each camp start date.

We are please to be able to confirm that, following the Government announcement on 12 July, we will be making changes in our facilities. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our community for their patience whilst we have had to operate under COVID-secure procedures. We are glad that it is now safe for us to remove many of the restrictions and return to a more "normal" experience with us.

Changes at all facilities

  • Wearing face coverings in indoor spaces will be expected, except when undertaking activity.
  • Changing facilities will re-open across our sites.
  • One-way systems in our buildings will be removed.
  • Hand sanitiser will continue to be provided for our users and we highly recommend use when entering and exiting our facilities.
  • Twice-daily cleaning will be continuing across all sites.

Indoor Sport Centre

  • Pre-booking for gym sessions will not be required.
  • Pre-booking will continue to be required for fitness classes and bookings in the sports hall.
  • The gym will be closed twice daily for 15-minutes to allow time for our staff to clean.
  • gym users will be expected to wipe down equipment before and after use to help keep our community safe.
  • All sports hall activities will resume. Bookings will be available from 19 July.

Coombe Dingle Sports Complex

  • Spectators can return to watching activities at this facility.
  • Restrictions relating to our Hospitality offer, including indoor seating, will be removed.
  • Sports Medicine Clinic will continue to operate at Coombe Dingle Sports Complex, and continue with measures in place during the last year. Pre-appointment screening will continue and we will request that clients wear a face covering for close contact treatment, unless exempt.
  • Pre-booking for indoor and outdoor Tennis court hire will remain. Tennis coaching and camp activities for adults and juniors will have some restrictions eased.
Swimming Pool
  • Pre-booking for swim sessions will continue at this facility. 
  • Capacity in swimming sessions will increase.
  • Changing facilities will be available before and after swim sessions.
  • Swim School, including Intensive Holiday Courses, will continue to operate under existing restrictions.
Langford Campus Gym
  • Open Hours at will return to "normal".
  • Pre-booking will continue via your online account. Pre-bookable slots will be available daily from 8.00 - 20.00.
  • Capacity in the gym will be reduced to a maximum of 5 people during all sessions.
  • We will continue to provide staffed sessions on Monday - 12.00 - 14.30, Wednesday - 15.00 - 19.00 and Friday 11.00 - 15.00.

Latest update from University of Bristol Tennis

Guidelines for playing Tennis at Coombe Dingle Sports Complex have been updated. You are no longer required to wait outside at reception to be welcomed in, you can now enter the building and make your way to the court(s) at your sessions start time. Full guidelines can be found on our Tennis pages

Please continue to arrive at the time of your booking - do not come to site early. Please only come to site if you have a confirmed booking. Face coverings are still required for adults when moving around out indoor facilities.

Guidance on the use of exercise mats (in-person fitness classes)

To keep our community safe as we return to exercise over the coming months, we are asking all attendees to all indoor and outdoor Fitness Classes, including B:Active Campus and B:Active Residences classes, to bring their own exercise or yoga mat where the sessions requires one. We will not be providing shared mats during classes.

Mats are available to buy at the Indoor Sport Centre Welcome Desk.

Reopening of University Sport facilities roadmap

Following the Prime Minister's announcement on the 22 February, we are pleased to provide you with an update on the reopening of Sport, Exercise and Health facilities.
 
The below table provides an update of when activity can resume in our facilities, subject to any further government guidance.
 
 

Stage 1:

8 March 

Facilities

  • Coombe Dingle Reopens for school access only (outdoors)

29 March

Facilities
  • All outdoor sport facilities reopen at Coombe Dingle (no spectators allowed)

Bookings and Services

  • Sports Medicine Clinic reopens
  • BSU club bookings restart and competitive fixtures allowed (no spectators)
  • External club bookings restart, and competitive fixtures allowed (no spectators)
  • Personal Training outdoors allowed

Stage 2:

No earlier than 12 April

  • Hospitality (outdoors) restarts – cricket/ hockey teas

We will be re-commencing memberships and sports passes from 12 April, in line with the current Government Roadmap for reopening leisure facilities (dates may be subject to change if Government guidance is adjusted). Those who hold sports passes will receive further information regarding this via email shortly.

Unfortunately, we will not be permitted to resume our indoor exercise to music programme until 17th May. We will continue to provide access to both live and on-demand fitness sessions through our Active Online programme (via the S.E.H App) and will be resuming our outdoor based exercise sessions at Coombe Dingle from 12th April.
