Sensing Spaces of Healthcare: NHS Sensory Memory Bank

One of the activities of this UKRI funded project is to collect sensory memories from NHS hospitals. Members of the public were invited to anonymously share a key sensory memory that they had during their hospital stay.

The Sensing Spaces website was created as a memory bank where these memories can be searched and browsed, providing a useful resource for other researchers. This project has been led by Dr Victoria Bates from the Department of History.

The site is hosted on the Bristol Blogs platform, but the visual identity of the project was a key feature. Research IT worked with an external web designer2d Forever to develop a custom WordPress theme for the site. Camille Aubry, an illustrator and cartoonist was also commissioned to supply bespoke illustrations.
