BCFN Director attends IOP Business Innovation Awards at Westminster

3 November 2017

On 18th October, Dr Annela Seddon, Director of the Bristol Centre for Functional Nanomaterials (BCFN) was invited to attend the Institute of Physics’ Business Innovation Awards at the Palace of Westminster.

Nine companies were recognised at the event, sponsored by Alok Sharma MP.  The competition was established six years ago to recognise and promote the enormous economic and societal benefits generated by physics-based businesses, which now employ some two million people in the UK and contribute 17% of the country’s GDP. Winners this year included MR Solutions Ltd who have developed a helium-free MRI system capable of generating fields of 9T, and M Squared Lasers Ltd. who are developing a range of user-friendly light-sheet microscopes for sustained live-cell imaging in life science applications. Both these companies and other winners will shortly be visiting the BCFN to discuss how their operations might benefit from access to our research portfolio and expertise.
