Day Reader pass

Visitor access restrictions

Access through the Day Reader scheme and SCONUL will be suspended from Monday 15 April to Sunday 26 May 2024 in order to prioritise study spaces for our own students during the Summer revision and assessment period.

We will not be processing applications during this time. If you have any questions, please email lib-access@bristol.ac.uk.

Use our physical collection for your own research. The Arts and Social Sciences Library is open to independent researchers.

What is a Day Reader pass?

We welcome Day Readers at the Arts and Social Sciences Library from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Sunday.

This pass gives you access to:

  • Our physical collections
  • Desk space to work while reading these books
  • UoB Guest wifi

Does not allow you to:

  • Use IT facilities, including PCs and copiers
  • Use online resources
  • Borrow books

You will need:

  • A form of photo ID. We accept:
    Passport
    Drivers Licence
    BRP Card (Residence Permit)
    Current student or staff ID from your home institution

Before visiting, please confirm the Arts and Social Sciences Library's opening hours as it may be closed on bank holidays or vacation days.

Passes are suspended during busy times in the academic year, such as assessment periods. During these periods, a notice will be put on this webpage.

Book retrieval

You can reserve books from the Arts & Social Sciences library. Any print items from our other libraries (whether available or out on loan) must be requested via our Book Retrieval Service

Access

The University buildings remain private premises and we reserve the right to deny access where deemed appropriate.

Visitor security

University Security Services operate identification checks on all University premises. You will need to show your pass when requested by a member of staff.

Please be aware that the lift in the Arts and Social Sciences library can only be accessed with a u-card, therefore a Day Reader visitor will be unable to use the lift without a member of staff.
