Emergent Populist Ecologies: Exploring the complex links between right-wing populism and the environment, 29 May-1 June 2023

University of Bristol Lead: Dr Ed Atkins, School of Geographical Sciences

International Partner Lead: Dr Felipo Menga, Università degli Studi di Bergamo, Italy

Other participants:

Dr Rico Isaacs, University of Lincoln and Professor Annika Mattissek, University of Freiburg, Germany.

The activity comprises a two-day workshop which  will explore potential avenues of collaboration between researchers working in fields that overlap the study of right-wing populism and its interaction with environmental issues. Topics include housing, borders, energy, and emergent technologies – all of which provide important points of the relationship between right-wing populism and environmental and climate change. This research field will be of interest to researchers at the Cabot Institute for the Environment and the Centre for Environmental Humanities, as well as colleagues in Sociology, Politics and International Studies.

The proposed workshop will provide a dedicated space for the researchers to present works-in-progress and ideas-in-formation before defining a shared position and approach to future work and grant applications.

Please contact Dr Ed Atkins if you would like to find out more about this activity.
