Latest visiting researcher awards announced

We are delighted to announce our most recent awards for visits in 2024 and 2025, please find a listing below.

Bristol Benjamin Meaker Distinguished Visiting Professorships:

  • Professor Stuart Candy from The New School, NYC, USA, will be working with Professor Helen Manchester and Professor Keri Facer in the School of Education on Experiential Futures.
  • Professor Mark Paterson from the University of Pittsburgh, USA will be working with Dr Andrew Flack in the Department of History on More-than-human senses and sensations.
  • Professor Jesus Malo Lopez from Universitat de València, Spain, will be working with Professor Jeff Bowers in the School of Psychological Science on Expanding the high-level Bristol-MindSet with low-level Visual Psychophysics for a better evaluation of Artificial Intelligence.
  • Professor Signe E. Kastberg from Purdue University, USA, will be working with Dr Tracy Helliwell in the School of Education on Mathematics teacher educator design and implementation of instructional activities and practices for preservice teachers learning from experience.
  • Professor Colin Gleason from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA, will be working with Professor Paul Bates in the School of Geographical Sciences on Delivering on the promise of SWOT’s hydrologic revolution.
  • Professor Dean Rickles from the University of Sydney, Australia, will be working with Dr Karim Thebault in the Department of Philosophy on Philosophy of Digital Physics.

Bristol Next Generation Visiting Researchers:

  • Dr Jelmar Hugen from Leiden University, The Netherlands, will be working with Professor Ad Putter in the Department of English on Perceval Passing Borders: Adaptation and Continuation of the French Conte du Graal Outside Medieval France.
  • Dr Diep Ha from the University of Queensland, Australia, will be working with Dr Sam Leary in the Bristol Dental School on Improving child oral health through longitudinal birth cohort research.
  • Dr Liza Rose Cirolia from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, will be working with Professor Roger Burrows in the School of Policy Studies on Digital futures and African urban transitions: thinking with urban speculation.
  • Dr Steven Threadgold from the University of Newcastle, Australia, will be working with Dr Samuel Kirwan in the School of Policy Studies on Fintech Futures: On the emergence of investing and gambling subjectivities.

We are currently accepting applications for the next round of the Bristol 'Next Generation' Visiting Researcher Programme and the Bristol Benjamin Meaker Distinguished Visiting Professorships. The deadline for both is 5pm Thursday 9th May 2024.
