Scientific research facility

Efficacy testing

Fenswood Farm holds a certificate for horticultural efficacy testing. The combination of a small laboratory and track sprayer enables precise amounts of chemical treatments to be applied to various sized targets. Commercial field experiments, carried out on behalf of agrochemical companies, are currently located at Fenswood.

Agriculture and field trials

Fenswood Farm offers many functions for agricultural and field trial use. Rothamsted Research are utilising the area and are currently carrying out a willow breeding program of observation/yield plots, which is funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).

Glasshouse and controlled environment

A 250m2 glasshouse is divided into three compartments; all of which are computer controlled (and logged) for temperature. Users of the facility have included the Universities School of Biological Sciences, agrochemical companies and independent consultants.

Controlled environment facilities (4 Fisons 2340G3 and 2 Fisons 600G3) are also housed within the building complex. These provide a controlled environment for predetermined day/night length, temperature, light, and a fresh air feed.
