"I decided to join the University of Bristol after I attended an open day: I loved the city and Chemistry facilities, so I knew that I wanted to study here. After I completed my undergraduate degree at another university, the Master of Science by Research in Chemistry offered at Bristol seemed ideal for me. Firstly, there are no timed exams, and secondly, I could choose the area of Chemistry that I wanted to work in. Upon arriving here, I found there to be even more flexibility and was able to tailor my project to suit my interests.

My supervisor has been very open to my ideas, and we work together to develop experiments that I find interesting for my research project. Studying a one-year research course can be intense as you must learn how to work in a laboratory quickly and how to design experiments that are realistic. My supervisor has been very helpful in steering my more ambitious ideas to make them feasible. If I suggest an idea that I am interested to explore, but not 100% sure of, my supervisor has always found a way to guide me.

The extensive postgraduate research facilities at Bristol are also great resources to help bring my ideas for experiments to life.  In addition, because Bristol is a large university, there are lots of societies and social events to become involved with. For example, I joined the run club and have met lots of other researchers who are doing other interesting projects – this has been a great way to network and generate ideas for my own research. The main thing I have learnt in Bristol is how to spot opportunities and find information, both for my research and for my life!"

"I chose the University of Bristol due to its ranking and reputation. When I applied, the School of Chemistry was already highly rated for research, but as of May 2022 it is officially Number one for research in the UK! Therefore, I feel that being a student at the University of Bristol will be of great help to realise my ambitions for a successful professional career. Additionally, Bristol is very well situated close to other major cities like London, Cardiff and Birmingham, with easy access by train and the motorways M4 and M5.

I arrived wanting to study with the best. I am supervised by a top-class Professor who has given me tremendous support throughout my study. I am also working in a lab with several PhD students and a fellow MSc by research student who have also given me both scientific and social support. I have been exposed to different working environments, many new experimental techniques, and I have access to a wide range of state-of-the art facilities to further my research. Outside of the research group, I also have access to technicians and workshops, as well as Academic research seminars. At Bristol there are many ways for me to gain knowledge and develop new skills, and I intend to make full use of them.

I found the wide diversity of the different communities in Bristol very attractive. As an international student coming from a completely different background, settling in was not as hard as I thought it would be. I have grown fond of the beautiful surrounding countryside and all that city life has to offer."
