Foundation Year interviews

Invitation to interview

We will contact applicants we would like to interview by email and will offer a suggested interview date and time. If this time is not suitable, please contact us to see if alternatives can be offered. Where possible, we will do our best to accommodate changes, but this will depend on availability. We aim to provide at least two weeks’ notice.

Interviews for the Foundation Year in Arts and Social Sciences will be held online. Interviews for the Foundation Year in Science, Engineering and Mathematics will take place at the University campus.

We aim to send invitations to those we would like to interview by mid-April, after the application deadline and when all applications have been reviewed. We anticipate interviews taking place in early May 2024.

We appreciate that it may not be possible for all interviews to be held in person. We ask that you let us know as soon as possible if you cannot attend your interview in person so that we can discuss if alternative arrangements can be offered (either an online interview or an interview at another time).

You may be eligible for your travel expenses to be reimbursed through our travel bursary.

Preparing for your interview

If you apply for the Foundation Year in Arts and Social Sciences, you will be asked to produce and submit a short piece of written work in advance to be discussed at the interview. We will ensure that you have two weeks’ notice before the submission deadline.

If you apply for the Foundation Year in Science, Engineering and Mathematics, you will be asked to complete a maths-related activity to discuss with the panel and complete a separate maths test. We will not be able to provide any further information about this activity before the interview to ensure no candidates are disadvantaged.

On the day

The interview will be carried out by at least two members of the University staff. Interviews will be conducted in accordance with the University's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy.

Interviews held in person on campus will include a tour of the relevant faculty and study spaces as part of your visit.

After your interview

We will contact you by email with the outcome of your interview as soon as possible. We aim to do this within five working days of your interview.
