Overview
The LLM in Law, Environment, Sustainability, and Business provides an in-depth study of environmental and sustainability law, with a focus on the role of business in sustainable development. Gain the skills and knowledge to help businesses balance people, planet and profit.
The programme adopts a broad perspective, examining institutions across sectors and critically analysing environmental law and governance, and corporate governance in business organisations, through the study of specialist units.
Ideal for careers in corporate ESG, environmental agencies, consultancies, government, or NGOs, this programme develops crucial analytical, communication, and research skills valued by top employers. Programme structure
Our vibrant international community and diverse teaching methods, including lectures, seminars, and bespoke skills workshops, enrich the LLM experience at the University of Bristol. A wide range of optional units reflect the expertise of our globally renowned academics, allowing you to further specialise your degree.
You will take four units and a compulsory dissertation. You are required to take the mandatory unit Legal Perspectives on Sustainability and have the option of choosing among three specialist units linked to the LLM Environment, Sustainability and Business, as well as one unit from any of our other LLMs.

Entry requirements
You will typically need an upper second-class honours degree or an international equivalent in Law.
OR an upper second-class honours degree or an international equivalent non-law degree in a related field, such as Politics and International relations, Economics, Business, Human Geography, Sociology or Anthropology.
We will also consider your application if your subject is not listed above, if you have at least one of the following:
- evidence of significant academic or professional experience (at least 12 months, paid) in fields including, but not limited to: environmental and sustainability IGOs and NGOs, environmental regulatory agencies.
- a relevant postgraduate qualification.
If this is the case, please include your CV (curriculum vitae / résumé) when you apply, showing details of your relevant qualifications.
If you are currently completing a degree, we understand that your final grade may be higher than the interim grades or module/unit grades you have achieved during your studies to date.
We will consider your application if your interim grades are currently slightly lower than the programme's entry requirements and may make you an aspirational offer. This offer would be at the standard level, so you would need to achieve the standard entry requirements by the end of your degree.
We will also consider your application if your final overall achieved grade is slightly lower than the programme's entry requirement.

Fees are subject to an annual review. For programmes that last longer than one year, please budget for up to an 8% increase in fees each year.
