Pearson scholarship in english

This scholarship is part of the Futures Scholarships. They are for UK applicants, towards their first year of undergraduate study and employability opportunities.

Awards of £3,500 are available in 2024/25.

The payments will be:

  • £2,000 in the first year and
  • £750 in the second and third years.

We also offer up to £1,000 of funding support for employability opportunities, such as internships, placements or summer research programmes.

Successful applicants will be enrolled on the Futures Scholarships programme. You will be supported by the Futures Scholarships co-ordinator to access career guidance and advice on University opportunities for personal and professional development.

Recipients are expected to come to periodic meetings with relevant University team members.

This scholarship is funded by a gift in the will of the late Elvira Pearson, in memory of her son Michael Pearson (BA English 1971), who sadly died in 2011.

Eligibility

You can apply if you:

  • are a UK applicant for full-time undergraduate study
  • have an offer (or are awaiting a decision) to study for an undergraduate English degree starting in 2024/25
  • can demonstrate financial need.

Applications are made via the additional funding page.

When you apply for additional funding, you complete one application form but are considered for a number of scholarships and bursaries.

Deadline

The closing date for applications is Thursday 16 May 2024 at 11:59 pm (UK time) with no exceptions.

Assessment process

You will find out whether your application was successful in early June 2024.
