The Nicholls Arts Bursary: terms and conditions

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Nicholls Arts Bursary, you must:

  • have an offer (or be awaiting a decision) to study a single or joint honours Theatre course in the Department of Theatre at the University of Bristol;
  • not previously have been enrolled on an undergraduate degree programme
  • be a Home/UK student
  • be eligible for financial support from your regional funding provider (ie Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales, Student Finance Northern Ireland or Student Awards Agency for Scotland)
  • have a household income of £25,000 or less.

We will check your household income details with the Student Loans Company. For us to do this, you must have applied for means-tested support from the Student Loans Company and have given your consent (along with your parents/sponsors) to share this information.

Award

  • The bursary is valued at £3,000 for the first year of study only and is awarded in the form of a living cost bursary.
  • Two bursaries are available in 2023/24.
  • The Nicholls Arts Bursary can be held in conjunction with the University of Bristol Bursary

How to apply

The Nicholls Arts Bursary is part of the additional funding programme. Apply via the additional funding page.

All applications should be received by the published deadline. Late applications will not be considered. The online application form will be closed once the deadline has passed. There is no appeal process and requests to submit late applications will not be considered.

Other criteria

  • The award is only available for the first year of your course.
  • If you need to repeat the first year of your course, the award will not be paid for the repeat year of study.
  • If due to extenuating circumstances you need to suspend your studies during your first year, the remainder of the award will be paid when you restart your studies but no more than £3,000 will be paid.
  • Recipients will be required to provide a progress report to the donor via the Development and Alumni Relations Office.
