Creative Commons licences

What are Creative Commons Licences?

Creative Commons Licenses are a way of easily designating what readers are allowed to do with your research. Gold Open Access will usually include placing a Creative Commons Licence on a work to ensure that it can be reused and shared as widely as possible.

While there are many types of Creative Commons Licence, the major funders currently only accept the Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) licence as compliant with their policy. This license lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your work, even commercially, as long as they credit you for the original creation. This is the most accommodating of licenses offered. It is recommended for the maximum dissemination and use of licensed materials. (Adapted from https://creativecommons.org/licenses/)
