Join us on Monday 17 March for a special screening and discussion with acclaimed filmmaker Jaydeep Sarkar on his documentary series Rainbow Rishta, which explores the experiences of living and loving as a queer person in India.
Hosted by the Sexualities Research Group, we will be screening the first two episodes of Rainbow Rishta, followed by a discussion led by SPAIS PhD researcher Colin Yang.
About Jaydeep Sarkar
Jaydeep Sarkar is a leading South Asian filmmaker and writer, whose work in gender has traversed feature films, advertising and documentaries.
Having garnered prestigious international awards for his work in advertising, like The One Screen Award for his iconic work ‘Out & Proud’ for The Times of India and a Kyoorius Blue Elephant for ‘Water Wives’, Jaydeep has gone on to make the seminal documentary series on living and loving as a queer person in India – ‘Rainbow Rishta’.
The show premiered at the prestigious Jio MAMI Film festival and was the first Indian documentary to be nominated for a GLAAD Award. In 2024, Jaydeep was recognized as a BAFTA Breakthrough artist.
