7 December 2022, 2.00 PM - 7 December 2022, 3.00 PM

Dr Fanny Froehlich

Queens Building 1.18LT

In this talk, Dr Fanny Froehlich will explore the concepts of gender equality and women's empowerment through a transnational critical feminist lens. She does so in the context of international development policy and practice with a particular focus on gender. Drawing on African feminist critique of a Western liberal paradigm within gender and development, Fanny then outlines how her own research set out to co-create understandings of gender equality and women's empowerment across spaces of the Global North and the Global South, with a focus on Ghana, West Africa.

Dr Fanny Froehlich is Lecturer in Sociology with a focus on gender and development at SPAIS, UoB; her recent entry on Gender and Social Transformation in The Bloomsbury Encyclopedia of Social Justice in Education is in print.
