SPAIS Lunchtime Talk: 'What does COP26 mean for the Paris Agreement (and Bristol)?’

30 November 2021, 1.00 PM - 30 November 2021, 2.00 PM

Dr Alix Dietzel

Priory Road Complex 2D1 Tress Lecture Theatre

SPAIS Lunchtime Talks are a chance to hear SPAIS lecturers and researchers offer their take on some of the big issues of the day. Talks will draw on their research and expertise, inviting us to think critically about events and ideas shaping popular discourse on politics and international relations today. Talks will last approximately 25 minutes, followed by a Q&A session.

In this talk, Dr Alix Dietzel reflects on the nature of global climate governance, discussing the Paris Agreement and the most recent COP. She will provide an overview of what has happened so far, where we are with emissions reductions and adaptation finance, and explain why the COP26 outcome document inches us forward. Given the slow nature of global decision making, Alix will also discuss what alternatives there are and provide an example of what is happening in the city of Bristol.
